The primary responsibility of  Project Designated Biologist (PDB)  is to assure that PVS is in compliance with all applicable environmental permits and conditions.  Secondary responsibility is to serve as the site California Fish and Wildlifer Service (CAFWS) approved designated biologist concerning the Incidental Take Permit (ITP) species management. The PDB will work closely with plant operations to ensure the operating staff can plan and complete their work in an efficient manner while meeting all permit requirments.  Additionally the PDB will mange subcontractors as required to meet permit obligations related to post construction / operational activities. 


  1. Serve as the site lead to maintain compliance with applicable US, CA and County environmental permits and obligations
  2. Act as primary liaison with CA and federal environmental agencies 
  3. Submit all required reports to CA Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) as required by permit obligations
  4. Monitor Operations and Maintenance activities in listed species habitat on the site to ensure that all conditions of the ITP are met.
  5. Conduct wildlife surveys and daily sweeps for protected species and report findings
  6. Handle and relocate listed wildlife species




  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology or Wildlife Management




  • A minimum of 5 years of practical field experience in dealing with the 4 species of concern at PVS
  • Must have designated biologist status on several CA list species – CTS, SJKF, GKR and SJAS
  • Experience managing environmental subcontractors in the completion of complex environmental tasks
  • Documented experience surveying, monitoring, and/or receiving training for some of the following California wildlife: small mammals including kangaroo rat and antelope squirrel, canids, raptors, nesting birds, California tiger salamander, snakes and lizards
  • Excellent physical condition – able to use shovel and other hand tools
  • Experience working on solar sites and/or in proximity to heavy machinery
  • Ability to safely work long hours in dry, hot, dusty conditions
  • Drivers license required


Job Skills:


  • The successful candidate will have the requisite education, experience and CA FWS “designated biologist” status for at least one of the four species of concern at PVS
  • If DB status is not currently achieved candidate must be able to attain status with one year of employment
  • Experienced managing projects under pressure
