    Con Edison Solutions utilizes AutoCAD software by AutoDesk for designing and drafting MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) building systems for both consulting engineering and design build projects. Con Edison Solutions utilizes a custom designed menu that utilizes lisp routines and customized commands to maximize drafting efficiency and accuracy and to ensure that all drawings confirm to the same drafting standards.  As CES has a growing project pipeline, we are seeking to hire a Senior Designer, CAD Administrator, who will hold a dual role that will involve managing and maintaining the company’s CAD system and participating in the production of MEP designs.


    The Senior Designer, CAD Administrator is responsible for maintaining the custom Con Edison Solutions MEP menu by writing new routines and commands to increase the menu’s efficiency and provide for the needs of the company’s drafting users, and integrating the CES MEP menu into the latest version of AutoCAD as necessary.


    Additional responsibilities include training all CAD users on the use of the CES MEP menu and the CES drafting standards.  The Senior Designer, CAD Administrator will periodically review the drafting product produced by the various CAD users to ensure compliance with the company’s standards and provide guidance and direction to the CAD staff as required to ensure that they understand and follow the drafting standards.


    As an MEP Designer, the Senior Designer/CAD Administrator will participate in the production (drafting and design) of MEP systems. Depending on the Designer’s background, the Designer will participate in the production of  HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Electrical (Lighting, Power and Fire Alarm).


    • Maintain the office CAD hardware and software. Install and configure new AutoCAD software on user computers for new and existing employees.
    • Maintain and configure plotters as necessary and ensure that plotter supplies (toner, paper, etc.) are kept in adequate stock as required.
    • Stay abreast of the latest AutoCAD releases and industry standards and provide feedback and recommendations to management as to when we should upgrade equipment and software.
    • Maintain and manage the custom CES menu to keep up with new AutoCAD versions and industry standards by:
      - Modifying the custom CES menu as required for specific client needs, changing building codes and technologies.
      - Modifying the custom CES menu to further enhance drafting efficiency and accuracy.
      - Developing Auto Lisp routines and custom commands to make enhancements.
      - Integrating the custom CES menu into new versions of AutoCAD when required.
    • Review drafting product to ensure that CAD users are following standards. Provide technical training on the use of the CES menu and drafting standards to all company AutoCAD users.
    • Assist with engineering production and develop an ongoing understanding of how the custom menu can be enhanced to increase efficiency and accuracy by designing and drafting MEP systems under the direction of senior engineers.



    • Associate Degree or higher in Drafting Technology or Engineering Technology.
    • AutoCAD proficiency certificate.


    • 5 years plus years of experience with AutoCAD.
    • 5 years plus years experience in MEP system design (HVAC preferred).


    • High level of AutoCAD proficiency required with the ability to customize the AutoCAD menu for specific needs.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office. Knowledge of basic programming and Auto Lisp writing skills.
    • Must have good analytical and computer skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong leadership, verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Able to interact effectively between CAD users, management and IT personnel.
    • Analytical and technical writing skills including word processing and spreadsheet analyses.
    • Design experience with HVAC and other building systems.



    • Travel is expected up to 10% of time.
    • Able to travel to various CES offices to train CES drafters on the use of the menu and company drafting standards.
    • Able to travel to various project sites in the course of designing to verify existing conditions and review contractor’s work for compliance with construction documents.
