  • Overview

    The Site Operator is responsible for the on-site generation of renewable energy at select plants in CED’s portfolio.  The candidate will be responsible for operating, maintaining and monitoring renewable energy assets (wind, solar, etc.) and energy infrastructure projects through close collaboration with other Con Edison Development team members as well as on-site subcontractors.  The Site Operator is expected to possess a high level of responsibility within Con Edison Development as well as a superior level of accountability and ownership.


    The candidate will be responsible for overall Site/Facility operations and maintenance activities.  Including the daily operation, planned and corrective maintenance, as well as event response for CED assets. The candidate will be responsible for operating one or more plants as well as responsible for coordinating operations, maintenance, and event responses at other plants in the region.  The candidate will furthermore be responsible for ensuring all operations and maintenance activities in the region are performed in accordance with industry best practices, industry best safety practices, ConEdison Development procedures, plans, and guidelines as well as all pertinent laws and regulations.  The candidate will need to climb wind turbines (80m) for maintenance and inspections. The candidate will perform medium to high voltage switching and LOTO. The candidate will have the ability to read and interrupt site drawings, schematics, and one-line drawings.


    1. Plant Operations – Oversee production of renewable energy at all plants in a particular region, ensuring that plants operate within design parameters in a reliable, safe and efficient manner. Monitor production to ensure plants are meeting performance expectations.  Coordinate and resolve operational abnormalities.
    2. Plant Maintenance – Supervise and coordinate maintenance and repair of plant components; troubleshoot and resolve problems that may arise.  Perform preventive/predictive maintenance to ensure long term profitability, plant reliability and risk minimization.
    3. Technical Support – Perform operational analysis as required to support Asset Management and Project Development. Create, review and distribute daily, weekly and monthly operational reports.
    4. Technical Expertise – Stay abreast of regulations, codes and standards as they relate to the industry.  Develop relationships with suppliers that result in beneficial synergies.
    5. General – Manage contractors as required, act as local CED liaison, develop long range plans and work with local civic groups as required.



    • Associate’s Degree or comparable work experience in wind/renewable energy field service required.   



    • 2+ years experience in power plant construction/operations environment including working at heights.
    • 2+ years wind energy field service
    • Experience establishing programs and performing preventive/predictive maintenance on power plant equipment.
    • Prior experience in Balance of Plant including medium to high voltage switching, LOTO and civil/ electrical infrastructure management.
    • Prior experience with GE wind turbines and SCADA systems preferred.

    • Strong technical, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. 
    • Willingness and desire to increase professional knowledge of turbine equipment, including safety regulations.
    • Experience or willingness to increase proficiency in high voltage switching/ grounding
    • Ability to work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
    • Willing to work overtime on holidays, weekends, and on short notice. Participates in an on-call schedule.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    •  Valid US Driver’s License and acceptable driving record required.
    • Knowledge of power generation equipment, power electronics and circuitry
    • Computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office suite of products, email, facility control management and reporting systems, including the use of CMS and troubleshooting tools.
    • Possession of comprehensive writing skills to meet contractual reporting obligations.
    • Ability to work within tight deadlines
    • Ability to multi task and be detail-oriented
    • Ability to frequently lift items weighing 1 to 60 pounds and occasionally lift items from 61 to 100 pounds.
    • Ability to work safely at heights to perform maintenance and conduct QA/ QC inspections.
    • Weight must not exceed 275 lbs. excluding equipment/gear worn when performing job related tasks.
